An independent traditional egalitarian community—loosely structured but tightly connected

Independent and community-centered

Although many of our members are closely involved with the larger Jewish community and its organizations, we are not affiliated with any other institution or Jewish denomination. Our members come from a wide range of Jewish backgrounds, drawn to the deep bonds of our warm community, lively programs, and spirited davening. We celebrate happy occasions together and count on one another for support through difficult times.

Traditional but evolving

While we follow time-honored ritual—services are in Hebrew, and we read the full weekly Torah portion—we also favor an eclectic style—for example, we use a range of siddurim and chumashim. Our non-hierarchical governance structure, headed by a moderator, ensures that we are an inclusive, consensus-driven community, open to change. Our dress style is casual, in keeping with our distinctly informal culture.

A place to contribute, connect, and create

As a fully participatory volunteer organization, the Minyan asks members to sign up for essential weekly tasks, and we rely on multiple people with the requisite skills to lead services, read Torah, and give a weekly drash. Kiddush offers a great way to make new connections, catch up with old friends, and find out what’s going on in our community and beyond. Our members also initiate and run social and cultural programs throughout the year.

We’d love to see you at our Shabbat morning services.

Coming Soon

We are very excited about the upcoming move to our new Walnut Street location, which represents much more for us than a mere change of address. For the first time ever, we will control our own space, thus opening up a myriad of possibilities for increasing social and educational programming, creating alternative services, and establishing ties to the neighborhood and larger community. We embrace this new opportunity to evolve further.
